Overview
The brief, in brief.
The ask
Turn a strong technical concept into hardware that installs cleanly and never gets second-guessed.
The constraint
Strict DIN-rail dimensions, gloved-hand installation, and unforgiving field conditions.
The result
A rugged, legible, manufacturable product built around how installers actually work.
Blue-DIN is a DIN-rail grain-monitoring product built for the realities of professional installation, where space is tight, hands are gloved, and reliability is non-negotiable. OPI Systems came to us to turn a strong technical concept into a product that installers would reach for first.
Hardware like this succeeds or fails in the cabinet: if it's awkward to mount, hard to read, or unreliable in the field, it gets a reputation no spec sheet can fix. The design challenge was to make a technical product feel effortless to live with.
As a full-service product design studio, we guided the project from early concept sketches through detailed prototyping and production support, resolving the housing, the mounting system, and the user touchpoints so the hardware is as easy to live with as it is to specify.

The Challenge
The hard problems hide inside the cabinet.
A DIN rail imposes strict, non-negotiable dimensional and clearance rules. Every design decision had to respect a tight envelope while sitting cleanly alongside neighbouring modules, and still leave room for the electronics to do their job.
Then there's the field: cabinets and enclosures expose hardware to heat, dust, and vibration, and installers work fast, often in awkward, low-light spaces, sometimes with gloves on. Clarity and durability weren't nice-to-haves: they were the whole brief.
Behind the Design
Obstacles to Innovation
Designing for the rail
The Challenge
DIN-rail mounting imposes strict dimensional and clearance constraints, with no tolerance for a housing that fights its neighbours.
Our Design Response
We resolved the housing to snap onto the rail cleanly and sit reliably alongside adjacent modules: the mounting feels positive and obvious, not fiddly.
Field-ready durability
The Challenge
Inside a cabinet, hardware faces heat, dust, and constant low-level vibration that work loose anything not built for it.
Our Design Response
Materials and construction were chosen to keep performing in the field, so Blue-DIN holds its place and its function over years of service.
Clarity at a glance
The Challenge
Installers read and wire devices quickly, often in cramped, poorly lit spaces; ambiguity costs time and causes errors.
Our Design Response
Status, ports, and labelling were laid out so the device can be read and wired fast, even in awkward low-light conditions and with gloves on.
Manufacturable at scale
The Challenge
A clever one-off is worthless if it can't be produced efficiently and consistently at volume.
Our Design Response
We designed for manufacture from the start, keeping tooling and assembly efficient without compromising the finished quality the product is judged on.
Tight installation constraints

How We Got There
Our Approach
01
Discover
We learned how installers actually work in the cabinet: the constraints, the frustrations, the shortcuts.
02
Design
Housing, mounting, and touchpoint design that reads as clean and intentional in a crowded rail.
03
Engineer
Rugged construction and DFM proven against field conditions and production realities.
04
Make
Manufacturing support to deliver consistent quality at volume.

“
Get the cabinet experience right and the product sells itself, installer to installer.
The coefficient effect: OPI Systems × Creative Coefficient
The Outcome
Effortless to install. Easy to trust.
Blue-DIN's thoughtful form factor, rugged construction, and straightforward interface demonstrate how hardware product development and industrial design come together to support real people in real-world conditions, where clarity and reliability matter most.
The finished product does the quiet, important work of making a technical device feel obvious: clean to install, easy to read, and dependable in the field, exactly where reputations are made.
