Accessibility Statement
Where this site currently stands against WCAG 2.2 level AA, including the problems we already know about.
Last updated 5 August 2026
The short version: this site is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 level AA. Most of it works well with a keyboard and a screen reader, and every image has a description. We know of five specific problems, listed below, the main one being that some grey text isn't high enough contrast against the dark background. If something here stops you doing what you came to do, email scott@thecreativecoefficient.com and we'll fix it and help you directly in the meantime.
Our commitment
We design products for people, including people whose abilities vary, and it would be inconsistent to treat our own site differently. We work to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
Conformance status
This site is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 level AA. Partially conformant means that most of the site meets the standard but some parts do not. We are stating this rather than claiming full conformance because we have measured the site and found specific failures, which are listed below. We would rather tell you what is broken than let you discover it yourself.
This assessment is based on our own review of the site's code and colour values, not an independent audit.
What currently works
- Every image on the site has descriptive alternative text. Portfolio images describe the product and its context rather than repeating the file name.
- The site can be navigated by keyboard alone, and the navigation and forms follow a logical tab order.
- Headings are properly nested, so screen reader users can jump through the structure of a page rather than reading it linearly.
- Icon-only links, such as the social links in the footer, carry text labels for screen readers.
- Form fields have visible, permanently associated labels rather than placeholder text that disappears, and validation errors are shown in text next to the field they relate to.
- Decorative elements, including the multiplication symbols in our headlines, are hidden from screen readers so they aren't read aloud as stray characters.
- The page language is declared, and layouts reflow without loss of content at 400% zoom and on small screens.
Known problems
These are the issues we are aware of and working to resolve. If you hit something not on this list, please tell us.
1. Contrast of secondary text
Some supporting and secondary text does not meet the 4.5:1 contrast ratio that level AA requires for body text. Measured against their actual backgrounds, the lighter grey used for supporting paragraphs reaches about 4.2:1 and the grey used inside dark cards about 3.9:1. Our orange, used on light sections and behind white text in call-to-action panels, reaches about 3.4:1, which passes for large headings but not for body text. This is the most significant barrier on the site and the one we are addressing first. Footer text, previously the worst case at 2.6:1, has been corrected.
2. Animations do not respect reduced-motion settings
Sections of the site fade and slide into view as you scroll. If you have asked your operating system to reduce motion, we do not currently honour that preference, so the animations play regardless. Nothing flashes and nothing moves faster than a slow fade, but it should still be your choice.
3. No skip-to-content link
There is no link at the top of each page that lets keyboard and screen reader users jump straight past the navigation to the main content, so you currently have to tab through the menu on every page.
4. Focus indicators rely on browser defaults
Form fields show a clear orange outline when focused. Links and buttons elsewhere fall back to whatever your browser draws, which against our dark background can be hard to see. We intend to define a consistent, high-contrast focus style across the whole site.
5. Portfolio images may cause layout shift
On project pages, images do not declare their dimensions in advance, so content can move as they load. On a slow connection this can shift the thing you were about to click.
Compatibility
The site is built to work with current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari on desktop and mobile, and with the screen readers commonly paired with them. It is not tested against browsers more than two major versions old.
Technical basis
The site relies on HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. It is built with semantic HTML and does not depend on plugins. Some interactive behaviour requires JavaScript; if JavaScript is unavailable, page content still renders but the enquiry form will not submit. If that affects you, email or phone us instead and you will get the same response.
Tell us about a barrier
This is the part we care about most. If any page, document, or form prevents you from doing something, we want to know, and you should not have to work around it while we fix it.

Please tell us the page and what happened. We aim to acknowledge within two business days. If we can't fix something quickly, we will tell you when we expect to, and in the meantime we will give you the information or take your enquiry by whichever means suits you.
